The real Swiss knives are produced by two companies: Wenger and Victorinox.  Both companies have more than a hundred year tradition and they have a permission to mark their cutler’s products with the Helvetic cross from the Swiss authorities. The knives can be easily distinguished. The Wenger knives have the cross in the red square. The Victorinox knives have the cross in the coat of arms. The Wenger capacity of production is only a quarter the amount of Victorinox capacity, but the quality is almost the same. In April 2005, the Wenger Company became a part of Victorinox Group, but they still remain a separately working company with their own brand and product line.
